ANEW members request for more trainings

The ongoing national level advocacy trainings have so far taken place in thirteen countries with immeasurable success. In each country, the trainings have brought together more than 25 participants from civil society organizations to learn more on how they can conduct effective advocacy. The training also provided an opportunity to discuss challenges and share experiences in the water and sanitation sector.

They were pleased with the content and the approaches of the training confirming that it has improved their skills in planning and organizing advocacy activities.the participants have in addition  requested further trainings on research and writing policy brief papers.

ANEW is currently preparing to roll out the second phase of training on Research and Policy analysis for advocacy and also training on Communications for Advocacy.

Among the very recent trainings is the one in Mali (West Africa) which took place in late February.  The training was fully organized and conducted by the ANEW's Focal Point in Mali which is lead by Mr. Aly Saw. The participants to the event shared a lot on what is happening in the countries' water and sanitation sector and also sharpened practical skills on how to address the situation in their country, Mr Saw said that it was sad that in West Africa there was lack of monitoring of commitments from the many conferences, he went ahead to distribute the CSOs declaration made during AWW2 in South Africa and mentioned that no follow up has been done up to date. A committee comprising of four people was therefore formed to coordinate follow up on the implementation of the various commitments.

The trainings have so far taken place in Ethiopia, Mali, Ghana, Senegal, Uganda, Tchad, Cameroon, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Lesotho, Botswana, DR Congo and Zambia. The countries to be trained soon are Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Mozambique.
